CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Liceo de Cagayan University, in partnership with Department of Labor and Employment-10’s Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (DOLE-10 CDOFO) and the Public Employment Service Office Cagayan de Oro (PESO CDO), conducted a career guidance talk with the theme: “Capacity Building and Breaking Boundaries” at the Liceo de Cagayan University Civic Center, this city, on April 14.
The event was participated by over 1,100 college students from the university’s twelve colleges, all of whom are candidates for graduation for academic year 2023.
The activity aimed to provide the graduating students insights on the basic rights of the workers through Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) and to guide the students in making the most of their respective chosen careers via Career and employment Coaching.
Dane Erika Cinco, ALI II, and Engr. Roel Dalagan, LEO II, discussed the salient features of the Workers’ Statutory Monetary Benefits once they are formally employed in their chosen fields.
PESO Manager Kathleen Kate Sorilla gave quality and practical advices for future job seekers and how PESO CDO can assist job seekers find gainful employment in their job search.
In order to make the event more engaging, students were encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas as a mechanism to prepare them in the world of work which is beyond their campus lives.
During discussions, questions were addressed and uncertainties were clarified in the open forum.
Emmanuel Toledo, DOLE-10 CDOFO provincial director, believes that combined textbook, practical knowledge and improved skills will guide the youth in real-life situations – knowing their rights as future would-be joiners of the labor force will help them choose appropriate career paths that will lead them to higher levels of productivity and personal growth. In this way, education is not only earned but importantly applied and practiced.
It can be gleaned that the successes of a Kagay-anon youths can only be realized through an effective collaboration, guidance and good network in the community.
The department is one valuable partner in shaping new generation of highly competent and productive members of the future workforce. (DOLE-10)
