MALAYBALAY CITY – The job fair hosted by the Bukidnon State University (BukSU) generated 51 hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) at the University Gymnasium, here, on April 12.
BukSU coordinated with the Department of Labor and Employment-10 (DOLE-10), through its Bukidnon Provincial Field Office (Buk PFO), for the employment facilitation of their graduating and current students and alumni.
Raul Valmores, DOLE-10 Buk PFO chief, said the HOTS will be starting their new careers in their respective workplaces within the region.
Service-related industries such as business process outsourcing and financial services topped the list of employers who hired the applicants.
Moreover, HOTS Mariel Cantabeja was elated of the experience and the opportunity.
“I already planned my trip here and prepared to what company to apply. My goal was to secure a job. I am so happy that when I applied to my first choice, I got hired right away. I will be going home bearing with good news,” she said.
Like the many registered applicants, Mariel walked in as a mere hopeful among the 269 job hopefuls and employed to one of the 2,370 work opportunities from 37 local and overseas agencies. She was hired as a Cashier from Centro Supersales, Inc.
“It was hard being unemployed, I wanted to aid my family of our needs that was why I decided to join this Job Fair,” Cantabeja said.
Likewise, HOTS Kristine Jean Laoganas said, “I am so happy that I can secure a job as a Virtual Assistant by the ACS VA Holdings. I have already envisioned to apply as many vacancies to seize this rare opportunity. After applying to multiple vacancies and companies I was finally told that I am hired.”
Valmores said the job fair program of DOLE, enhances the access of the unemployed to work opportunities.
It reaches the poor, unemployed, and displaced workers in the rural areas as well as provides a venue for an immediate meeting of jobs and people to minimize transportation and other expenses incurred by applicants in coming to the city or areas where vacancies are available.
Also, Valmores said that job fairs are also a way to support anti-illegal recruitment campaigns by enabling access of jobseekers to legitimate employers/recruitment agencies.
The Job Fair also generated 206 near-hires who are are jobseekers who were considered hired but need to submit additional or lacking requirements or may need to attend further interviews or exams. (DOLE-10)
