CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Honoring the selflessness of farmers and fisherfolk, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region-10 (BFAR-10) paid tribute to the nation’s noble food security heroes by patronizing value-added products developed by recipients of the government’s programs and projects through a community fish pantry in the BFAR 10 premises, this city, recently.
Dubbed ‘Modernanisasyon at Industriyalisasyon Tungo sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita,’ the activities set by the bureau showcased the unique, innovative, and delectable approaches of how far fishery products could go by any means possible in culinary.
Each of the five provinces in Northern Mindanao set up kiosks to flaunt its value-added products.
Every stall served bite-sized hors d’oeuvres of well-packaged seafood and satisfied the customers’ palettes and confusion about the flavors of the food spin-offs.
Teodoro Bacolod Jr., BFAR-10 regional director, the newly installed Fisheries Regional Director, Dominador Comeda Jr., and BFAR-10 division chiefs paved the way for visitors and exhilarated customers in their entry into the mini-market.
BFAR-certified producers from the province of Camiguin showcased their variety of flavored squid chicharon, dried squid, and sardines which attracted the patrons.
Misamis Oriental faceted their seaweed shing-a-lings, dried uyap, and appetizing bottled seafood condiments. Misamis Occidental features their best-selling bottled seafood in the likes of adobong lumayagan, adobong nukos budlisan inun-unan and bangus in oil.
A group of buyers was slumped in the province of Bukidnon’s stall as it projected a ‘catch-and-cook’ approach.
Fresh from the ponds of fisherfolks from the province to an aquarium for the customers, the hito was weighed, cleaned, flavored, and smoldered in a hot grill producing an enticing aroma as the fish oozed out its meat juices for the ones ready to devour a full meal.
Other than the savory preparations set out by other provinces, a long line was piled-up at the province of Lanao del Norte’s kiosk for their unique sorbet made from seaweeds served in a wafer cone apt to cleanse the worn palettes of the patrons.
Aside from the distinctive products displayed, a colorful arrangement of fruits and vegetables from farmers in Bukidnon was given space to offer its freshness to the community. (CLViajante | BFAR10)
