CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Cagayan de Oro City, and the provinces of Camiguin and Misamis Oriental need licensed football coaches to teach young footballers how to play the ‘beautiful game’.
Because of this need, CMORFA President Mike Batiles has organized the first step of getting the coaches their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) licenses to be professional coaches. The Philippine Youth Coaching Course (PYCC) is the initial requirement for coaches before they could take AFC C, B and A licenses.
Batiles said in an exclusive interview that it has been a long time since CMORFA has organized a football coaching course. “I have to thank newly elected Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president John Gutierrez for making this project possible.”
Batiles also added that the ongoing PYCC is also made possible because of the support of Gingoog Mayor Erick G. Canosa, Gingoog City Sports Coordinator Tedd Julius C. Javier, Provincial Sports Consultant coach Efren Pollentes and Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia also helped in making the course a success.
PFF President Gutierrez sent newly appointed acting PFF Coaching Education Manager Ariston Carpio Bocalan of Baguio City to conduct the weeklong coaching course now at the Gingoog City United College.
Bocalan is an AFC A License coach and was a varsity player of Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) during his playing years. He was a member of the Ateneo UAAP champion team from 2003-2006.
He also has a AFC Futsal Level 2 license and a United European Football Association (UEFA) B football License.
Aside from his football licenses, coach Bocalan was a BS Secondary Education graduate of Benguet State University (BSU), and has an MA in Physical Education also at BSU. He also has some MA Units in Communications with Ateneo.
Presently coach ‘Aris’ is the football and futsal varsity coach of the University of Cordilleras and at the same time works for the Department of Education as a teacher and coach.
The PYCC football coaching course started Monday with an opening program participated by CMORFA president Mike Batiles and CMORFA General Secretary Dhon Lazo.
After the opening coach ‘Aris’ lectured on the football governing bodies like FIFA, AFC, the PFF and the pathways for a coaching profession in the country.
He then lectured on the importance of warm-ups and cool downs. He was then assisted by CMORFA official and prominent Gingoog coach Jake Lopez in the practical group dynamics later in the afternoon.
The weeklong course would have mostly lectures in the morning and then practical group dynamics in the afternoon. The course is scheduled to end on Sunday afternoon.
Participants include six female coaches Jessa Abdon, Mikylla Albarico, Rezzane Marie Bagayo, Maria Ninna Gomez, Lelia Tion, and Andrea Vallejos.
