The number of registrants for the second edition of Department of Tourism 10’s “Camiguin Isle Bike Tour” on Saturday, August 10, has doubled compared to its the inaugural last year.
John Baclig, DOT-10 senior tourism operations officer, said 291 have registered and confirmed participation in a 64-kilometer road tour passing through the island province’s five coastal towns, as of Wednesday, August 7.
Baclig said that while registrants are mostly from Cagayan de Oro and nearby areas of Northern Mindanao, Camiguinons have taken interest in joining the journey likely for health and wellness too.
Island residents accounted for 101 of the 291 registered participants this year. In the inaugural “Camiguin Isle Bike Tour” on May 29 last year, there were 146 riders and 86 of them were Camiguinons.
Last Saturday, August 3, during the launch of this year’s edition at Ayala’s Centrio Mall, DOT-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan acknowledged the support of the provincial government of Camiguin, and R.O.X. (Recreational Outdoor Exchange) Philippines.
Unchuan said the DOT-10’s Bike Tour Program is intended to promote Camiguin’s natural, religious, and historic tourist destinations, attract tourists who are into health and wellness, and support the global campaign for the reduction of carbon emissions. (Uriel Quilinguing/MT)
