MindanaoToday.com | POC should help Yulo handle family problem
By: Jack Biantan
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – It could have been a PR Coup had the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) allow the entire Yulo family to meet the two-time, Paris Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo at the Ninoy International Airport when the Philippine Olympians arrived three days ago.
We do not know really who decided that the families of the Olympians were not allowed to meet our sports heroes in the airport.
Carlos Yulo embracing his estranged mom Angela with his dad Mark, his siblings Karl, Elaiza and Joriel plus his grand father Rodrigo, could have been heaven for the photographers. The move could have silenced the bashers and the family war forgotten.
But instead, the families were not allowed to meet our heroes in the airport. The Yulo family had to line-up the streets of Malate to meet their favorite son during the motorcade. Carlos was on the parade bus and he saw only his proud father waving at him.
The image on TV and on social media showing Carlos waving at his father was dramatic. However, it was badly scripted. Why Mark Yulo and his family did not meet his victorious son in the airport? It is Filipino tradition that we meet our families who come from abroad at the airport.
Of course it was not Carlos fault. The POC or however was in charge could have handled it better.
My wife Virma said she would have gone berserk if that happened to her.
OLYMPIANS
The Olympians had a hectic schedule when they arrived, meeting the government officials and the sponsors. By this time Carlos should have met his family, gave them the sweet embraces and planted them with kisses on their cheeks, unless there is still no peace in the family.
The Filipino nation last Aug. 3 and 4 celebrated Caloy’s double gold medal harvest in gymnastics. The nation was however disturbed when Carlos’ mom Angela posted in the social media a different story instead of cheering for Caloy. This alarmed the netizens, and the truth revealed that there was indeed something wrong going on between Caloy and is mom Angela.
Then Caloy released a statement that admitted that there was really a rift between him and his mom. The nation then got divided with some blaming the mom and surprisingly Caloy’s constant companion and girlfriend Fil-Aussie Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose getting the bash.
Aside from the financial arguments, Caloy revealed that part of his rift with his mom was how Angela treated his girlfriend. Caloy said that his mom has not even met his girlfriend Cloe and yet she already judged her. So, the rift between Caloy and his mom has deeper roots.
Carlos mom Angela upon realizing her fault for creating this media storm, apologized to Carlos in a press conference.
In my opinion, Angela created the media storm. Whether it is intentional or not, it does not matter. She has to accept her fault. Many netizens also blame Carlos and some unfairly point at him as a bad son for siding with his girlfriend.
Carlos is 24 years old and of course I presume is so much in love with his girlfriend. His girlfriend gives him happiness that is why he has sided with him. Carlos must have plans for her that is why he has chosen her over his mom.
This is a lesson for parents. Treat your future in-laws well. Do not meddle with your children’s money and always side with your children specially when they compete for our country.
A named politician from the North is trying to help by giving money just to see the Yulo family unite again. Accept his money, invite all your neighbors and the Yulo clan and splash on a high end party and then move on.
Time is so short to fight. There are three other Yulo siblings waiting at the sideline to become the next Olympic gold medalists. Support them. (jackbiantantambok@gmail.com)
