CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Civil Service Commission-10 (CSC-10) in celebration of its 122nd anniversary cited one quality that is essential in honing agile and future ready servant heroes is being resilient, the ability to recover from a change.
Grace Belgado-Saqueton, regional director of CSC-10, shared in Talakayan sa PIA media forum, the major change was that of the Covid-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2021.
“For a while, we were shocked in a standstill. But we cannot stay in a standstill all the time, we must rise from the experience of COVID and we have to adjust how to deliver services,” she explained.
The theme for this year’s Civil Service Month celebration is a ten-year overarching theme, which is “Transforming public service in the next decade, honing agile and future ready servant heroes.”
Among the methods that the government used to continue to deliver its services despite the pandemic was the use of the internet and technology.
Saqueton said those who were not techy have learned and were pushed to learn to use the internet and these new gadgets.
There had been changes in the commission over the years, shared the director.
“As years go by, we have improved aside from appointments, and conduct of examinations, we also now have quasi-judicial functions. Then, we intervene in the learning and development of government employees,” she said.
CSC-10 is conducting training to government employees to improve their services to the public.
“Gusto natin na maramdaman ng mga tao na merong gobyerno (We want people to feel that government is here),” she said.
She added that people might not get what they want from a certain government office but that when they leave, they are still happy and satisfied with the service.
“It is how we deliver the service to our clients, how we explain why you cannot and why you can,” she said.
The Civil Service Commission is the central personnel agency of the government, in charge of the merit and fitness of the employees in the civil service. Meanwhile, merit and fitness is determined as far as practicable by competitive examination through civil service examinations.
The forthcoming examination on October 23, is for the Penology and Fire Officer exam and the Treasury examination.
