BAYUGAN City, Agusan del Sur — Adamson University Soaring Falcons needed the heads up plays of Fil-Am Mathew Montebon to defeat University of the Visayas Green Lancers 74-57 and then relied on the off the bench offense of AJ Pressman in their second match to beat the Emilio Aguinaldo College 86-81, to advance to the championship of the Bayugan Mayor Kirk Asis Open Invitational tournament here at the Lope Asis gym.
The Weng Burs Apartelle & Ella Store sponsored San Beda Red Lions sealed their championship place in the morning after whipping University of Perpetual Help Systems-Vincare Pharma 66-59.
San Beda then swept the elimination round and arranged the championship clash with Adamson after edging the University of the Visayas-Bustamante Construction 76-73, in the evening
The match was non bearing for San Beda. Despite of their loss the UV Lancers managed to squeak in the battle for third after Emilio Aguinaldo College General rallied from a 26 points first quarter deficit, 13-39 to nip University of Perpetual Help-Systems 88-86 in the overtime.
Once again the “King” of the Generals King Gurtiza led the General’s rally to tie the ballgame at 80-80. Gurtiza then sank the winning basket with 1.56 seconds remaining from the right side to give EAC its second win in the elims and allow them to battle University of the Visayas for the third place. UV finished the elimination round with only one win.

It was a pity that UPHS-Vincare Pharma had to go home with four loses, but the boys of Olsen Racela improved today losing only by few points to San Beda and EAC, unlike in the opening day where they were defeated by UV and Adamson by large margins.
San Beda is on top of the elims with four wins in the five-team tournament organize by the Down Under Production and Ka Dayo of coach Van Halen Parmis.
Adamson finished the elims with three wins and one loss. The Soaring Falcons lost to San Beda in their opening match but still landed second after defeating UV, Perpetual and EAC.
The champion will win P300,000, second placer 200,000, third 150,000, fourth place P100,000 and fifth place P75,000.
The tournament is supported by the Bayugan local government of Mayor Kirk Asis in honor of the City Charter Day celebration and the feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus.
