With the theme, “Collaborative media groups’ support to Government towards Enhanced National Food Security, Economic Recovery, and Socio-Economic Welfare,” the leading organizer, headed by Nelson Santos, president of PAPI, invited various speakers to grace the event and share insights related to their theme, and other pressing issues involving the media.
Among the invited speakers was DOST-10 represented by Engr. Jonathan Agbayani who shared the programs, projects, and milestones of DOST in the region.
On the third day, all media participants were invited by DOST-10 to join the project visits to notable projects of DOST located in the city and in the neighboring municipalities.
Among the projects visited were the Sar Shalom Fiber Product Inc and the Bamboo Pavilion in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
Sar Shalom is an exporter of abaca and pineapple fiber while the Bamboo Pavilion was established by then-congresswoman Maria Lourdes Acosta-Alba and his husband, Congressman Jose Manuel Alba as part of their bamboo advocacy.
Another site visited was the office of the Philippine Textile Research Institute in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, where the silk reeling and rearing facility is located.
The last stop was at the processing facility of Bestfriend Goodies, a woman-led enterprise that produces Ready-to-Eat food packs.
The National Press Congress was spearheaded by the Publishers Association of the Philippines, in collaboration with DOST, the City Government of Cagayan de Oro City, and the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental. (NBCC | DOST-10)
