NorMin attains 58% herd immunity in 2021: DOH

AS the ongoing fight against Covid-19 and race to herd immunity continues, northern Mindanao reached 58.12 percent herd immunity as of December 30, the health department said.

Dr. Jose Llacuna Jr., Department of Health Center for Health Development Northern Mindanao regional director, attributed the success of the vaccination to the different local government units (LGUs), healthcare workers, and volunteers together with the private sector that assisted in attaining the immunity coverage.

The region recorded 2,064,645 vaccinees out of the 3,552,194 targeted population.

From the said number Cagayan de Oro City led the herd immunity coverage in the region with 425,259 out of 518,518 target population vaccinated or 82.01 percent followed by Camiguin at 70.84 percent or 46,178 out of 65,183 and third is Iligan City with 63.89 percent or 166,711 out of 260, 940.

For the rest of the region, Misamis Oriental attained 56.69 percent or 386,384 out of 681, 572 target population, Misamis Occidental is at 56.21 percent or 248,495 out of 442,053, Bukidnon at 56.02 percent or 598,758 out of 1,068,779 and Lanao del Norte with 37.44 percent or 192,860 vaccinated out of 515,150 population.

Llacuna reminds the public to get vaccinated and to also avail of the booster doses given by the government. Despite being fully vaccinated, the health department still recommends the observance of BIDA Solusyon or minimum public health standards. (JAKA | PIA-10)
