CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A total of 4,499 bags (in 50 kilograms) of NFA rice from National Food Authority-10 (NFA-10) were shipped to NFA region 7 on Dec 28, 29 and 30, 2021 to replenish the depleted rice buffer stocks of the latter after Super Typhoon Odette devastated its provinces recently.

The NFA is an agency mandated to maintain an optimum level of buffer stocks for calamities and emergencies.

Adjacent NFA regional offices immediately transferred rice stocks to NFA-7 to augment its inventory thereby ensuring availability of NFA rice in the region as rice purchases by its local government units, Department of Social Welfare and Development and other relief agencies are expected to increase for their relief operations.

The source provinces for the transfer were Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental and Lanao de Norte, three of the top palay procuring areas of NFA-10.

NFA regions 4, 6, and 9 also sent a portion of their stocks to region 7.

The transfers were coursed through marine transport. One thousand eight-hundred bags were shipped from the ports of the cities of Ozamiz and Iligan while 2,700 bags were dispatched from the port of Cagayan de Oro City.

As of writing, the remaining 1,600 bags are scheduled for another batch of shipment as NFA-10 committed to send a total of 6,100 bags to typhoon-hit Region VII. (Zen | NFA-10)
