TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – To equip farmers with knowledge on environmentally safe alternatives for animal waste management, disposal, and utilization, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) conducted a two-day training dubbed “Small-scale Biogas drum-type training and installation” recently.

Sixteen hog raisers from the municipalities of Baroy, Tubod, Lala, Magsaysay, and Kauswagan joined the said training held at Macapagal Training Center (MTC) in Pigcarangan, Tubod town,

Growing concerns about public health and environmental hazards have led the PVO to host this training and invited Isel Fetalvero, biogas coordinator of the Department of Agriculture 9, as the resource speaker.

During the training, safety concerns, material requirements, installation, as well as financial and business opportunities regarding biogas was tackled by Fetalvero.

“Biogas not only helps in solving the livestock waste disposal problems within communities, but farmers can also benefit from it through acquiring biofuel, fertilizer, and with the right technology can be utilized for electrical energy easing the financial burdens from the farmers,” said Fetalvero.

Provincial veterinarian Fritz Provido said that biogas will use animal manure which is abundant in the province. It is seen to mitigate the public health hazard and environmental degradation. According to him, the materials are very affordable and can greatly help the environment.

“It is essential for the participants to have a hands-on experience in making a biogas digester unit because they will soon be the ones to pioneer and pass down this technology to their fellow livestock raisers,” Provido added. (PIO-LDN)
