CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Environmental Management Bureau-10 joins the nation in celebrating ASEAN Month in August 2021 with the theme, “ASEAN: Community of Opportunities for All.”

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on August 8, 1967, in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by ASEAN’s founding member-countries, which included Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

Brunei Darussalam, Viet Nam, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Cambodia eventually joined the organization, establishing what is today known as ASEAN's ten-member states.

The ASEAN aims to accelerate the economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region through joint endeavors, promote regional peace and stability, promote active collaboration and mutual assistance on matters of common interest, provide assistance to each other in the form of training and research facilities, collaborate more effectively for the greater utilization of their agriculture and industries, promote Southeast Asian Studies, and maintain close and beneficial cooperation with existing regional and international organizations with similar aims and purposes.

The theme for 2021 is an avenue for ASEAN to demonstrate their support in communicating the ASEAN character as people-oriented and people-centered by conducting activities that provide ASEAN peoples with new opportunities through an open and integrated market, and opens a world of opportunities to collectively deliver and fully realize human development, promote sustainable development, foster an ASEAN identity through intercultural understanding and mutual respect, and prepare ASEAN community to face new and emerging challenges in the future. As a result, it establishes one of the founding fathers of ASEAN's goals, which is to better the lives of its people, as reflected in the organization's aims and purposes. (Source: EMB-10 FB page)
