ACKNOWLEDGING the important role of civilian volunteers in its efforts to save lives, the Phil. Coast Guard (PCG) in Northern Mindanao said it will be creating more squadrons for its auxiliary arm in the coming days.

Commodore Agapito Bibat, PCG District Northern Mindanao commander, said one of the priority projects it will initiate with the Phil. Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA)-DNM is to invite new members and the creation of new squadrons for its area of responsibility.

“We are encouraging coastal communities in barangays and municipalities to organize themselves as they are very helpful as force multipliers,” Bibat said during the turn-over of leadership and management ceremony of the PCGA-DNM held at the Dynasty Hotel Friday evening, April 9.

Commodore Agnes Soubiron, newly installed PCGA director auxiliary district (DAD) for the region, said she will be traveling to visit the five squadrons in Northern Mindanao under her command as one of her first acts as the new DAD.

Soubiron, a dentist by profession from Iligan City, was sworn in as DAD replacing Commodore Rey Peter Gille. She will serve as DAD from 2021 to 2023.

“It is our purpose to create new squadrons because some of the squadrons were transferred to Zamboanga del Norte and Caraga,” she said.

Soubiron, 58, joined the PCGA in 2008 and was assigned in the finance and logistic for 10 years. She was also appointed as director auxiliary squadron (DAS) for the PCGA 1003rd squadron before she became a commodore.

“I joined the PCGA because it is my passion to help,” she said.

During the ceremony, newly appointed PCGA-DNM DAS for the five squadrons were sworn in.

They were Capt. Isidro Butaslac Jr., DAS for the 1001st squadron, replacing Capt. Arthur Mencius Quiblat; Capt. Galileo Maglasang replacing Capt. Edgar Ong, DAS for the 1002nd squadron; Capt. Rufil Quibranza, who replaced Soubiron, DAS for the 1003rd squadron; Cdr. Venerando Adran, who replaced Capt. Antonio Reyes, DAS for the 1007th squadron; and Cdr. Roquesa Mabale, replacing Capt. Emmanuel Paderanga, DAS for the 1009th squadron.
