CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Science and Technology-10 (DOST-10) launched six newly developed technologies from various food innovators in Northern Mindanao ready for commercialization in the “Mind to Market” event.
The regional launching of newly developed technologies in region 10 introduced Ready to Drink Soy Milk with Corn Grits and Wombok Vegetable Powder developed by the Northern Mindanao Food and Innovation Center (NMFIC), Coco Sap Drink developed by Misamis Oriental Provincial Agriculture’s Office, Tomato-Pineapple Blend Powder developed by Central Mindanao University Food and Research Center, Coco Savor Liquid Seasoning by Trunk to Gold Agribusiness Corporation, and Whole Banana Flour by SGB Ventures Inc.
DOST-10 Regional Director Alfonso P. Alamban said these are the products that were conceptualized, researched and then produced by technology generators and now ready for commercialization, however, needs technology adopters for funding.
“We are calling out investors especially those on the lookout for new products perhaps they can check here and talk to the technology generators on how they can get the license to invest in production of these products and hopefully they can commercialize as well,” Alamban said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Queenie Ann Curayag, innovator of Tomato-Pineapple blend powder, from Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Bukidnon, admitted there has been a lot of surplus of tomato and pineapple in the province where some are just being thrown and dumped.
“We thought, why not combine this fruit and vegetable into a powder mix, which is very healthy and can be used as juice or mixed with other food so it is multi-purpose,” Dr. Curayag said.
Erlyn Grace Aguilar of Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center also shared their journey on how they innovated and created the Ready-to-Drink Soy Milk with corn grits.
“We have been through a lot of research and development. Honestly, I wanted to quit and focus more on laboratory and daily work as a faculty but look where we are now. We are here. From a small idea to envisioning a product that is on the go, convenient drink Soya-Amaize is a delight to people looking for a healthier alternative to dairy beverages,” she said.
The event aimed to connect researchers, industry, academe, government agencies and other stakeholders to support commercially viable small scale food production and processing through technology transfer, promote the technologies and the culture of innovation and collaboration and give recognition to our food innovators.
