CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Within a week, authorities had arrested 179 suspects of various crimes in Northern Mindanao, the regional office 10 of the Philippine National Police (PRO-10) reported Friday, March 20.
Highlighted in the report, which covered the March 14 to 20 period this year, were police operations on illegal drugs, gambling, and on wanted persons.
On anti-illegal drugs, 71 persons were apprehended in 56 operations that yielded over 256 grams of shabu worth P1.744 million, including the buy-bust activity on March 20 at Barangay Balulang, in this city.
Seized from three suspects in Balulang operation were 11 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets, a digital weighing scale and P500 bill buy-bust money.
The sachets contained white crystalline substance believed to be shabu which weighed about 80.7 grams and worth P548 thousand.
One of the suspects was found to have a prior violation of Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. His brother, who was the main target of the buy-bust operation, was also arrested.
In anti-illegal gambling, 18 operations were conducted which resulted to the apprehension of 29 individuals and confiscation of over P4 thousand gambling items.
Seventy-three wanted persons were neutralized during the week-long law enforcement campaign.
On loose firearms, police in the region arrested six individuals in 12 operations that resulted to the recovery of nine small arms and three light weapons, aside from 534 house visits for the safekeeping of 21 firearms.
“These successful operations underscore the unwavering dedication of our men and women to combat crime and maintain peace and order across the region,” said Brigadier General Ricardo Layug Jr., police regional director for Northern Mindanao. (MT)
