CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The local government of Cagayan de Oro has started its plan to establish free internet connectivity to all villages in this city.
City Mayor Rolando Uy made the announcement following the recent visit of some of the top Mindanao officials of the PLDT – one of the biggest telecommunications companies in the country – on Thursday, February 2.
Uy said the city government is initially targeting to establish free internet connectivity to 50 barangays within this month or the following month this year.
“Sa akong gitinguha nga matag covered court sa barangay adunay Wi-Fi (I want every covered court in the barangay to have WiFi),” Uy said in his Facebook live program on Friday, February 3.
The said initial target was made as the local chief executive explained that there are still barangays in this city that don’t have cellular sites from Smart – a wireless communications and digital services subsidiary of PLDT Inc.
However, Uy said a total of 36 Smart cellular cites will be added in the city in line to the said project.
The first barangay to be installed with the free internet connectivity, Uy said, will be the barangay Carmen, as one of the biggest and populated barangays in Cagayan de Oro.
Apart from communications and security, Uy also believed that the said development will help students in their studies. (MT)
