MindanaoToday.com | Corpus young booters to play in Singapore tilt
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Some members of the Corpus Christi School elementary football team have been picked to play for the Paulstiga Soccer Academy (PSA) in the 10th Junior Soccer School and League (JSSL) Singapore 7-Aside tournament on the 28th-31st of this month, at five different venues in Singapore.
The tournament is considered as one the largest youth football tournament in Asia and has attracted 6,000 players and coaches from 400 teams from 15 different countries.
All matches in the competition are 25 minutes long with the winners getting medals, trophies and souvenirs from the organizers.
Led by the three Maagad brothers Xylem, Zion,Ylva and their dad coach Awin Maagad, the Corpus Christi kids are still fresh from capturing the Cagayan de Oro Division meet elementary football title. They will fly to Singapore on the 26th of this month.
The Corpus Christi booters will reinforce the Alabang, Muntinlupa Paulstiga Soccer Academy (PSA), owned by Nigeria coach Paul Stiga, in the U11, U9, U8 and U7 categories.
Xylem Maagad will lead the Corpus kids in the U11, with CdO City meet top scorer Francis Sanico, Vince Pasilan, defender Aendy Torralba, and goalkeeper Joaquim N. Sundalo.
Zion Maagad,and Franco Sevillejo will reinforce PSA in the U9 category, while John Victor Zeus Diacor and Nehemiah Roxas will play in the U8.
The lone female booter in the group, Sophia Isabelle Sevillejo and the youngest of the Maagad brothers Ylva will see action in the U7.
This is for the first time for all these Corpus Christi players to will play abroad except for Zion Maagad, the second of the Maagad brothers. Zion played for the PSA U8 team last year in the JSSL Singapore after he was scouted during a tournament in Nabunturan Davao de Oro.
This time however, Zion will no longer be alone playing in Singapore. He will be backed by his teammates and the Corpus football community specially coach Corpus head coach Wilbert Racines, who has given his all out support to the players.
More than 200 teams from all over the world will join the tournament for boys and girls U8, U10, U12, U13, U15, and U17. (jackbiantantambok@gmail.com)
