CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – US based football charity Friends of Female Footballers (FFF) is supporting the 1st FFF Girl Power Futsal Cup which will kick off this Sunday (Jan. 28) at the Bulua National High School gym in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.
The charity is a prime mover in helping promote football among girls in third world countries like the Philippines. FFF has given brand new football shoes, footballs, jerseys and shorts to the Lumbia Raptors Football Club FC.
Through the efforts of former Philippine national team player Julia Gabrielle Benitez and her father Eric Benitez of Monocle Group Cagayan de Oro City has been very lucky to be picked to host this one day competition.
Julia, a defender, played for the Philippine U20 Women’s team during the Asian Football Federation (AFC) U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers in Vientiane, Laos last year.
Eric Benitez is even coming here in Cagayan de Oro City on Sunday to be the guest of honor during the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony is set at the middle of the tournament. The first match will kickoff at 7 a.m.
More than 20 teams among the three categories, the Women’s Open, Girls 18, and Girls 14 are expected to sign up for the tournament.
Among the early registrants are Bulua Strikers FC, Lumbia Raptors FC, Little Me/Kidolla FC, Salay FC, Talisay FC, XU Crusaders, UST-P, and Calciatrice FC of Ginggoog City.
More team are expected to beat the deadline set today (Wed Jan. 24, 2024). Slots are limited and registration is on first come first served basis.
Winners will get trophies and medals. Special prizes will also be given to top players.
The tournament is sanctioned by the Camiguin Misamis Oriental Regional Football Association (CMORFA) and Philippine Football Federation (PFF).
Aside from FFF and the Monocle Group the event is also sponsored by the Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Klarex Uy, Brgy. Carmen captain Kikang Uy, CdO SK Chairman Ken Sacala, Fr. Jun Paradiang of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Punta Princesa Cebu.
